When the ball lands on zero (or double zero in American roulette), most even-money bets lose in full. But some casinos offer special rules that convert the zero into a partial loss β commonly called a "tie" in these contexts.
French for "the sharing". When zero hits, even-money bets (Red/Black, Even/Odd, Low/High) are split: the player loses half and the casino keeps half. This halves the house edge from 2.703% β 1.351% in European roulette. Common at French roulette tables and some live-dealer platforms.
French for "in prison". When zero hits, even-money bets are "imprisoned" β the stake stays on the table for the next spin without result. If the next spin wins, the original stake is returned (no profit); if it loses, the stake is forfeit. The long-run expected value is identical to La Partage: effective house edge β 1.351% (EU).
